Owens Corning to acquire Masonite International Corporation outright
12 February 2024US: Owens Corning has agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of door systems producer Masonite International Corporation for US$3.9bn. This acquisition marks a diversification into the residential building sector for Owens Corning, providing it with a new growth platform on which to leverage its capabilities.
Owens Corning chair and CEO Brian Chambers said "We are excited by this opportunity to add a scalable new growth platform for our company. Masonite is a market leader that complements our existing residential interior and exterior product offering and has consistently demonstrated top-line growth and margin expansion. Kingspan acquires Steico from Schramek
08 January 2024Germany: Ireland-based Kingspan completed its acquisition of flexible wood fibre insulation producer Steico for Euro250m on 5 January 2024. Alliance News has reported that Kingspan issued shares to former Steico owner, Austria-based Schramek, following its completion of the deal.
Soprema to buy Saint-Gobain’s majority stake in Celotex
11 December 2023UK: France-based waterproofing and insulation group Soprema has agreed to acquire a 75% stake in Celotex. Dow Jones Institutional News has reported that Celotex is presently a subsidiary of Soprema’s fellow France-based conglomerate Saint-Gobain. After completion of the deal in early 2024, Saint-Gobain says that it will retain a 25% stake in Celotex.
Celotex controls the Ipswich polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation plant in Suffolk.
Saint-Gobain Ecophon to acquire Träullit
08 December 2023Sweden: Saint-Gobain Ecophon has entered into a deal to acquire wood wool products company Träullit. Saint-Gobain Ecophon said that the acquisition will complete its existing portfolio of wall and ceiling products.
Saint-Gobain Ecophon CEO Pierre-Emmanuel Thiard said “Träullit has a Swedish legacy to be proud of, and we are happy to start a new journey together to develop this offer. The integration with Ecophon will broaden Träullit’s current sales focus from Scandinavia into further European markets and accelerate growth thanks to Ecophon’s complete solution portfolio and experienced research and development division.”
Kingspan cleared to acquire 51% Steico stake
20 November 2023Germany: EU competition authorities have approved Ireland-based Kingspan’s acquisition of a 51% majority stake in wood fibre insulation producer Steico. Kingspan concluded the deal with wood products company Schramek in July 2023, and expects to complete its acquisition of the stake in early January 2024.
Swisspor Group to acquire BriothermXPS
14 November 2023Romania: Switzerland-based Swisspor Group has concluded a deal to acquire extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation producer BriothermXPS. BriothermXPS sells its insulation across Central and Southeast Europe. Swisspor Group thanked its deal coordinator Concilium Consulting for helping it to conclude the agreement ‘despite a challenging market environment and complex transaction structure.’
Kingspan seeks to acquire Conqueror
26 October 2023New Zealand: Ireland-based Kingspan has applied for clearance to acquire polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation producer Conqueror. Conqueror operates the Christchurch insulation plant in Canterbury. Kingspan already supplies PIR foam core material to the plant. After the planned acquisition, Conqueror will retain its wholesale insulation distribution business.
Sweden: Ireland-based Kingspan has made a mandatory cash offer for the outstanding 69% of shares in Nordic Waterproofing, the Irish Times newspaper has reported. Kingspan previously raised its stake in the waterproofing products and services company to 31% on 13 September 2023.
Saint-Gobain completes acquisition of Building Products of Canada
29 September 2023Canada: Saint-Gobain completed its acquisition of Building Products of Canada at the start of September 2023 for an undisclosed sum. The privately-owned company manufactures residential roofing shingles and wood fibre insulation panels. It has 460 employees and three manufacturing plants, at Montreal in Quebec, Edmonton in Alberta and Pont-Rouge in Quebec. Saint-Gobain says that the purchase is intended to establish its position worldwide in light and sustainable construction. The acquisition was first announced in June 2023.
Simest buys 44% Ediltec Croatia stake
21 September 2023Croatia: Italy-based public-private investment company Simest has acquired a 44% stake in Ediltec Croatia for US$2.1m. SeeNews has reported that the new funds will go towards Ediltec Croatia’s construction of its planned 250,000m2/yr Lepoglava insulating panel plant.
