Belarus to import synthetic fibres from China
08 August 2024Belarus: A delegation from the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has entered into negotiations with Chinese synthetic fibres producers for the import of their materials. UZDA News has reported that the products will serve as raw materials for the Belarusian light building materials industry.
BUCE said "Chinese companies have become increasingly active, making regular transactions. This year, China supplied Belarus with spare parts, industrial tools, and technological equipment – mainly import-substituting products.”
Chinese imports were valued at US$84m in the opening seven months of 2024, more than double the figure for the corresponding period in 2023.
TechnoNICOL to establish distribution centre in Minsk
01 December 2023Belarus: Russia-based TechnoNICOL has bought a 15,000m2 site in Minsk. PrimePress News has reported that the producer plans to build a US$333,000 distribution centre and storage facility for insulation and other products at the site. Additionally, the facility will store and distribute products from Knauf Insulation, Cerezit, Beltep, Skyprofile, Typhoon and Ilmax. TechnoNICOL plans to triple the total number of products it sells in Minsk, with a specific focus on its rough interior finishings portfolio.
Owens Corning sells Belarusian and Russian assets to Umatex
08 December 2022Belarus/Russia: US-based Owens Corning has agreed to sell its Belarusian and Russian assets to materials and technologies company Umatex. Umatex is a subsidiary of Russian state-owned nuclear power provider Rosatom. World Service Wire News has reported that the assets in question include the Gus-Khrustalny glasswool plant in Vladimir Oblast and the Tver mineral wool insulation plant in Tver Oblast, both in Russia.
Owens Corning chair and CEO Brian Chambers said "This announcement represents the final step in our process to fully exit our operations in Russia. I would like to thank our colleagues in Russia for their contributions to our company and customers over the years."
Belarus: Gomelstroymaterialy has entered talks with the administration of St Petersburg’s Krasnogvardeyski District over the possible start of exports of insulation and wall panels to the Russian population centre. Business World Magazine has reported that construction, especially of social facilities, is also an area in which the local government officials say they would like to advance cross-border cooperation.
Belarus: The Minsk Silicate Materials Plant will be merged with the Belarusian Cement Plant following agreement between the shareholders of both companies. The merger is expected to be finalised by December 2016. The Minsk Silicate Materials plant produces construction and insulation materials, including polystyrene-based insulation products. It was originally founded in 1895. The Belarusian Cement Plant has been in operation since 1996.
Caparol opens Diskom plant in Belarus
20 July 2011Belarus: The Caparol group of companies has opened its Diskom plant in the free economic zone at Brest to make up to 20,000t of dry insulation every year. The construction took 18 months to build and cost Euro3.1m. The new plant is equipped with WTB Binder Labortechnik GmbH production facilities. The project has created 21 jobs.
Previously, insulation systems were imported into Belarus but Diskom will be making licensed insulation materials domestically using 80% domestic components. The plant will prioritise the domestic market during the first development phase and then export its products to the Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
