BASF reports disruption to MDI production at Chongqing plant

15 December 2017

China: BASF has blamed ‘force majeure’ for a disruption to the production of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) at its Chongqing plant due to a supply shortage of natural gas from its syngas supplier. BASF says it is unable to determine when it will be able to resume production as its syngas supplier has been unable to tell it when the input will be restored. The German-headquartered chemical multinational uses MDI to manufacture a number of products including insulation.

ICL increases flame retardant production in Netherlands and Israel

17 June 2016

Netherlands/Israel: ICL has completed ramping up its compaction capabilities and is now producing a range of its sustainable polymeric flame retardant at full capacity, to 12,000Mt/yr, at its Industrial Products (IP) plants in Israel and the Netherlands. The flame retardant, which is marketed by ICL IP under the brand name FR-122P, is an alternative for customers transitioning from hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)-based flame retardants currently used by the building industry in extruded polystyrene (XPS) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam insulation products.

FR-122P is now available from both plants in three grades of products: powder material, EPS compacted grade and XPS compacted grade using ICL IP’s in-house compaction technology. FR-122P is manufactured by ICL IP using technology licensed from Dow Global Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company.

Johns Manville launches new white insulation

04 June 2014

US: Johns Manville (JM) has announced the addition of CI Max® White insulation to its line of building insulation products. Johns Manville CI Max White is a high-efficiency polyiso foam sheathing that is designed specifically for exposed interior applications.

JM says that CI Max is approved for use without a thermal barrier and provides an attractive and durable interior finish. It is suitable for wall or ceiling applications in commercial, residential, agricultural and industrial buildings. CI Max White provides a continuous layer of insulation to reduce thermal bridging. Additionally, it has an acrylic-embossed facer that is aesthetically appealing, hard-wearing and easy to clean.

"Code-compliant, cost-effective and thermally efficient wall assemblies aren't something that can be achieved with just one product. It takes a comprehensive, planned and well-executed insulation system including both cavity and continuous insulation, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our portfolio," said Fred Stephan, senior vice president of Insulation Systems for JM.
