SIKA joins World Green Infrastructure Network
18 March 2022Switzerland: SIKA has joined the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN) and its European Chapter regional advocacy section.
Sika’s head of target market roofing Patrick Horisberger said "With our membership in WGIN, we want to influence and support the development of green roofs by sharing know-how, supporting studies and developing new solutions."
Sika produces facemasks
21 May 2020France: Switzerland-based Sika has entered production of facemasks at its Dexel building materials plant in Les Salles du Gardon, Gard department. Sika says that the plant produces 15,000 masks/day ‘almost entirely from Sika products.’ It will distribute the masks around customers and employees and has received an order for 165,000 masks.
Sika Europe, Middle East and Africa regional manager Ivo Schädler said, “We find ourselves in an exceptional situation that confronts us with new challenges on an almost daily basis, especially in those countries worst hit by coronavirus. Our top priority is to protect our employees, their families, and our customers – which also includes finding unconventional ways of helping them.”
Sika records 14% sales growth in 2020
13 January 2020Switzerland: Sika’s 2019 sales rose by 14% year-on-year to Euro7.50bn from Euro6.56bn in 2018. The year saw seven new plants open and the acquisition of UK-based Parex, China-based Crevo-Hengxin and Canada-based King Packaged Materials. “By consistently pursuing this strategic path we will be able to further exploit the business potential of our markets and generate sustainable, profitable growth,” said Sika CEO Paul Schuler.
Sika acquires Romanian market leader in insulation
26 November 2019Romania: Switzerland’s Sika has announced its purchase of Adeplast, a mortars and thermal insulation producer, subject to clearance from Romanian anti-trust authorities. Adeplast generates Euro109m/yr across its four plants. Sika’s Europe, Middle East and Africa regional manager Ivo Schädler spoke positively of ‘exciting crossselling opportunities’ and the possibility of increased market penetration.
Sika to buy Arcon Membrane in Romania
20 December 2018Romania: Sika has agreed to acquire Arcon Membrane, a manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems including thermal insulation systems for facades and roofs. Its insulation systems combine expanded polystyrene (EPS) sheets and bituminous membranes. Sika says that by buying Arcon it will strengthen its position in the local market and extend its product portfolio to meet the increasing demand for complete solutions in the roofing and waterproofing markets. The transaction is subject to approval by the Romanian anti-trust authority. No value for the purchase has been disclosed.
“Arcon’s market leading position, comprehensive product portfolio, and established distribution network will support our growth strategy by opening up new cross-selling opportunities, as well as increasing our market access and the penetration of key project,” said Ivo Schädler, Regional Manager Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Sika.
Sika buys majority stake in Index
16 January 2018Italy: Switzerland’s Sika has purchased a majority stake in Index Construction Systems and Products, a manufacturer of insulation, roofing and waterproofing products based near Verona. The acquisition is intended to extend Sika’s position in the Italian market and offer advantages in Southern Europe and North Africa. No value for the transaction has been disclosed.
“Index is a proven industry leader and together we will hold a strong number one position in the Italian roofing market. On account of its high research and development competence, and expandable production capacity, Sika will establish the new site as its Southern European production hub for bituminous systems, with potential to also serve the Middle East and Africa,” said Paul Schuler, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Sika.
Index’s product portfolio consists of bituminous membranes for roofing and waterproofing, products for thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as waterproofing and repair mortars. The company mainly serves customers in Italy, but also in more than 100 other countries worldwide. Index was established in 1978 by Luigi Carlon, who has owned and run the company since then. To ensure a smooth transition, he will keep a minority stake and continue to contribute to the management of the company as the chairman of the board of Index.
Sika buys KVK Holding
12 September 2017Czech Republic: Sika has agreed to acquire KVK Holding, a manufacturer of waterproofing and roofing systems, including insulation products and a range of mortar products. The transaction is subject to clearance by anti-trust authorities. KVK operates six production sites: three for the manufacture of mortar products, two for bituminous membranes and one for expanded polystyrene insulation (EPS) for building envelope solutions. With these facilities Sika will strengthen its production platform and expand its geographical footprint in the growing Czech market. KVK’s relationships with major builders’ merchants will also allow Sika to enhance its presence in the Czech market.
“KVK is a proven industry leader, with a product portfolio and geographical presence that will increase our market penetration and support our growth strategy. The acquisition also brings us manufacturing expertise for waterproofing and insulation solutions,” said Ivo Schädler, Regional Manager EMEA.
Sika completes acquisition of Rmax Operating
06 February 2017US: Sika has completed the acquisition of Rmax Operating, a US-based producer of polyiso insulation products, on 31 January 2017. The deal was originally announced in mid-December 2016. Sika has said that the purchase is intended to bolster its presence in North America, particularly in roofing, sealants and waterproofing markets.

15 December 2016US: Sika has agreed to acquire Rmax Operating, a US-based producer of polyiso insulation products for complete building envelope solutions, including roofing and wall systems. The purchase is anticipated to drive Sika’s growth in the North American market via synergies between the companies. Rmax generated sales in excess of US$75m in 2016. The transaction is subject to clearance by anti-trust authorities.

Rmax brings us a proven industry leader, with strong innovations for building envelope applications, along with manufacturing expertise for wall and roofing insulation. We proudly welcome the Rmax employees to the Sika team and are excited about growing our business together,” said Christoph Ganz, Regional Manager North America for Sika.
Rmax Operating produces insulation products and accessories at three production sites in Dallas in Texas, Greer in South Carolina and Fernley in Nevada. Currently Sika USA purchases insulation products from third party suppliers to include in its solutions for roofing and building envelopes. With this acquisition it will now be possible to benefit from in-house production.
UK: Two Sika-Trocal projects were nominated in the single ply category of the NFRC UK Roofing Awards 2015.
At Lancaster and Morecambe College, a Fully Adhered Type SGK membrane was applied by MAC Roofing to re-cover an existing roof as part of a Euro20.6m redevelopment. For the second phase of the project, the renovation of a complex 3000m2 domed roof situated on required a high performance and flexible membrane. Due to the age of the building, the failing felt roof had failed to meet BREEAM requirements and expected U-values.
On a smaller scale, a new-build four bedroom house in Hammersmith, London incorporates a unique roofing solution. Designed to accommodate restrictions on the use of exterior windows in the perimeter wall, the roof included seven pyramids of varying sizes with a vaulted roof light in each section. With such a complex pyramid design, a neat finish around the edges was crucial. The mechanically fixed Sika-Trocal S system proved to be the optimum roofing solution for contractor Ithaca Roofing.
