Bauder launches BauderECO FF biomass-based polyisocyanurate insulation

Germany: Bauder has launched BauderECO FF, an 80% biomass polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation for flat roofs. Construction Management News has reported that the product offers 75% reduced CO2 compared with conventional PIR insulation, and is compatible with the Bauder Total Roof System and Thermofol warm roof waterproofing products.

Soprema acquires Mida from TechnoNicol

Lithuania: Russia-based TechnoNicol has divested its Baltic roofing and waterproofing membranes business, Mida, to France-based Soprema. The business includes plants in Lithuania. TechnoNicol acquired Mida in 2001. BNS News has reported that its sales dropped by 17% to €38m in 2023, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Mida said "Mida has completely cut off all ties with its former owner, Technonicol. Mida is beginning a new stage in the growth of its business in Europe."

Saint-Gobain acquires Menkol Industries

India: France-based Saint-Gobain has acquired waterproofing systems producer Menkol Industries. Menkol Industries operates a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) products plant in the Kinfra Industrial And Textile Park in Kanjikkode, Kerala.

Holcim boosts sales and earnings in first half of 2022

27 July 2022

Switzerland: Holcim increased its consolidated sales by 17% year-on-year to US$15.3bn in the first half of 2022 from US$13.1bn in the first half of 2021. Its recurring earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) were US$2.26bn, up by 9.6% from US$2.06bn. Solutions and products sales grew by 84% to US$2.72bn from US$1.48bn and accounted for 18% of group sales, compared to 8% of its full-year 2020 sales. The group’s operating profit rose by 15% to US$2.15bn from US$1.86bn, while its net debt rose by 7.5% to US$13.9bn from US$12.9bn.

Holcim called market conditions “volatile,” but forecast net sales growth of 10% year-on-year on in 2022, upgraded from 8%. The group forecast double-digit net sales growth in its Solutions and Products division to US$5.2bn for the year. It also expects to end the year with accelerated progress towards its 2025 sustainability targets, positive growth in its recurring EBIT and a free cash flow above US$3.12bn.

Chief executive officer Jan Jenisch said “Our record results, from net sales to recurring EBIT and earnings per share, are setting solid foundations to deliver our Strategy 2025 - Accelerating Green Growth. Our roofing and insulation businesses stood out as growth engines, on track to reach pro-forma net sales of US$3.64bn in 2022.”

SIKA joins World Green Infrastructure Network

Switzerland: SIKA has joined the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN) and its European Chapter regional advocacy section.

Sika’s head of target market roofing Patrick Horisberger said "With our membership in WGIN, we want to influence and support the development of green roofs by sharing know-how, supporting studies and developing new solutions."

Kingspan to acquire Ondura and Troldtekt

22 February 2022

France/Denmark: Ireland-based Kingspan has signed deals for two diversifying acquisitions. On 18 February 2022, it agreed to buy France-based roofing and building waterproofing company Ondura from France-based Naxicap Partners for Euro550m. Meanwhile, in Denmark, the group has also agreed to acquire wood-based acoustic board producer Troldtekt. Troldtekt produces its boards from ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and shredded Norway spruce wood.

Speaking of the latter deal, Kingspan Insulation managing director Alan Lawlor said "I am delighted to welcome Troldtekt to the Kingspan family. As the global leader in high-performance insulation and building envelope solutions, we have the capacity to help them expand beyond their core markets, whilst bringing acoustic and decorative boards and natural insulation materials into our portfolio. Troldtekt has been able to continuously innovate and it sets the bar impressively high in the field of the circular economy.” He concluded "We will invest significantly in the company's production facilities to set them up for geographic growth."
