Metigla announces €15m Ceptura metal roofing systems plant upgrade

Romania: Belgium-based Metigla plans to invest €15m in an automation upgrade and expansion to its Ceptura, Prahova, plant, which produces insulated metal roofing systems. Romania-Insider News has reported that the plant produces its own mineral wool insulation panels, along with other components for its roofing systems.

CEO Olivier Somers said the company prioritises long-term growth through local production and innovation. Metigla recorded sales of €27.5m in 2024, approximately €4.13m (15%) of which was through exports. Somers added "Romania remains our centre of gravity, and the Ceptura factory is a clear expression of how local excellence can have an international impact.”

Saint-Gobain to upgrade Azuqueca stone wool insulation plant

Spain: Saint-Gobain has launched a €40m expansion and upgrade to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% at its Azuqueca insulation plant in Castilla-La Mancha. The producer will replace the plant’s existing furnace with a new electric one. When operational in early 2026, the upgraded line will expand the Azuqueca plant’s capacity by 40%. The furnace will run on renewable electricity sourced under a power purchase agreement signed with utilities provider Endesa in 2022.

Rockwool to expand Marshall insulation plant

US: Rockwool has approved a US$100m investment in the construction of a new line at its Marshall, Mississippi, insulation plant. When commissioned in 2027, the line will produce wallboard with WR-Tech enhanced water repellence and CR-Tech corrosion resistance. Dow Jones Institutional News has reported that the line is intended to meet increased demand for industrial insulation in the Gulf of Mexico region.

Rockwool CEO Jes Munk Hansen said "North America – and the US specifically – is an important strategic growth area for us. We have four insulation factories on the continent, with a fifth on the way in Washington state."

BASF expands graphite-enriched expanded polystyrene line at Ludwigshafen plant

Germany: BASF is set to expand production of its Neopor graphite-enriched expanded polystyrene (EPS) at its Ludwigshafen plant in Rhineland-Palatinate by 50,000t/yr. From its commissioning in 2027, the expanded line will help BASF to meet increased demand for the material. Neopor serves as raw granulate for use in the production of insulation materials for building envelopes. The company says that it offers a 30% greater heat retention than traditional EPS.

Director Stephan Kothrade said "Neopor is classified as a 'Pioneer' in the highest category of the Sustainable Solution Steering (Triple-S) sustainability assessment which BASF uses to evaluate all its products, and is part of BASF's Sustainable Future Solutions."

TechnoNICOL plans capital expenditure investments of US$109m in Russia and Kazakhstan in 2024

Russia/Kazakhstan: TechnoNICOL plans to invest US$109m in capital expenditure (CAPEX) in Russia and Kazakhstan throughout 2024. The sum is triple TechnoNICOL’s 2023 CAPEX, according to the company. US$27.3m will go towards two projects in Kazakhstan: the completion of the upcoming Almaty insulation plant, scheduled for September 2024, and the start of construction of the upcoming Karaganda insulation plant. The remainder of the sum will fund other projects, including the construction of the upcoming Rostov insulation plant and an expansion to the Chelyabinsk insulation plant, both in Russia.

Mongol Basalt produces 2248t of stone wool insulation in 2023

Mongolia: Mongol Basalt produced 2248t of stone wool insulation in 2024, which it says helped Mongolians to reduce their energy consumption by 78GW. Nonetheless, the producer’s sales fell by 20%, amid a 35% drop in its prices.

During 2023, Mongol Basalt commenced construction of a new production line at its Ulaanbaatar insulation plant. The UB Post newspaper has reported that the company expects the upgrade to double its capacity to 50,000t/yr, and to introduce new energy-efficient solutions.

Isonat to expand Mably wood fibre insulation panels plant

France: Saint-Gobain subsidiary Isonat is investing Euro10m in a capacity expansion to its Mably insulation wood fibre insulating panels plant. French Collection News has reported that the expansion will double the plant’s capacity to 42,000t/yr. The company says that it aims to double its sales in two years. It noted growing demand for bio-sourced materials and the availability of favourable home renovations subsidies.

Knauf Insulation to expand Novi Marof insulation plant

Croatia: Knauf Insulation plans to invest Euro120m in an expansion to its Novi Marof mineral wool insulation plant. Poslovni Dnevnik News has reported that the expansion will double the plant's capacity and create 70 new jobs. This is in line with Knauf Insulation's sustainability strategy. Work will commence in late 2023 and reach completion before the end of 2025.

Croatia: Knauf Insulation plans to invest Euro120m to build a second production line at its Novi Marof stone wool insulation plant. HINA News has reported that Knauf Insulation managing partner Alexander Knauf met government officials to discuss the company's plan. The producer says that the new line will create 70 direct jobs.

KCC starts commercial production on new glass wool line at Munmak plant

04 January 2023

South Korea: KCC started commercial production on an upgraded glass wool line at its Munmak plant in December 2022. It held a ceremony attended by chair Chung Mong-jin to mark the event. The new production line has a production capacity of 35,000t/yr and has increased the plant’s total glass wool capacity to 100,000t/yr across three lines.

The Munmak plant was originally commissioned in 1997. It then added a second production line in 2002 and a third in 2003. Overall KCC has a total glass wool production capacity of 130,00t/yr, including its Gimcheon plant. A new production line is also being built at Gimcheon. Once completed in the second half of 2023 the company’s total capacity will reach 180,000t/yr.
